The band for The Modern Renaissance Man show, lead by musical co-host, Trip Rogers, is a combination of the Trip Rogers Trio and Gael Warning bands. Trip joined the show the 3rd quarter of 2005, beginning first as a guest and then signing on as the co-host. Jeff Chester followed shortly after in the same venue - guest then regular.

Trip and Jeff are two of the players in the Trip Rogers Trio. Jeff was also in the Gael Warning band which is a progressive bagpipe-jazz-aboriginal-fusion band. Trip has since become a member of Gael Warning also.
Another regular face appearing the show is Dave McKenzie. Dave is a specialist on bag-pipes and other estrange instruments. Dave came to the show via Jeff Chester, and is a member of Gael Warning.

Trips band, The Trip Rogers Trio, plays a variety of rock, blues, and country genre music with excellent original music. Trip has been a part of the Charlotte and surround area music scene for over 25 years. Trip has been a significant contributor to the continued success of The Modern Renaissance Man TV show using his unique guitar to perform dynamic music with thought provoking lyrics. You can learn more about Trip, his band, music, and gigs from his website,
www.triprogers.com.

Jeff Chester brings a unique flavor of percussion to The Modern Renaissance Man "band". Jeff plays various exotic instruments such as the bodhran, dendrum, hydro-drums, washboard, and rototoms. Additionally, Jeff adds a special flair with his regular "Celtic" attire. Also, Jeff is becoming renown as a movie connoisseur on the show often engaging in fun commentary with the host; Jeff has heard of almost every movie! You can learn more about Jeff, his band, music and gigs on the website
www.gaelwarning.com.

Dave McKenzie was a surprise for the show. He came as a guest/band member and, like others, has become addicted to participating. Dave actually makes a living using his unique blend of instruments such as highland bagpipes, shuttlepipes, electric pipes, shakuhachi, and didgeridoo. Besides doing individual performances, Dave is a member of Gael Warning and also teaches bagpipe music. Look at the Gael Warning for more about Dave. Also, check out his own website:

The original musical co-host, Scott McCloud, on engaged for the first quarter. With Scott was Keith Hicks, both members of the Scott McCloud Group. Scott played electric bass with Keith on guitar turning out excellent jazz tunes. While Scott is no longer an active cast member due to time constraints and conflicts, he is renown and infamous for the theme song for The Modern Renaissance Man. The song, "Don't Leave Mad, Just Leave", is an original tune that Scott wrote and performs the sax. You can learn more about Scott at his website,

These guys have a unique blend. The last show the guitar was kind of hard to hear. Sorry they won't be at the anniversary taping, but I'll catch the show anyway.

I'm wondering if you and the band have considered putting in an appearance at "Festival In The Park" in September?

Well, I can't speak for the "band", but I usually go to the Festival every year. If you're talking about going under my title, "The Modern Renaissance Man", I'm not sure what I'd do for them. However, I'm open to any participation. Feel free to send them a request yourself,,, who knows.

Will Access 21 have a booth at the Festival, and if so, are you going to put in an appearance?

And usually there's a folk area of music and I was wondering about the band.. but I'll send them a note.

The Modern Renaissance Man (copyright 2005-2006) television show is not truly affiliated with Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Access TV 21. Through residency, certification, and specific rules, the Producer is allowed to put this show on this "free speech" channel. Additionally, the only other relationship is use of Access 21's facilities for taping the program (which is not a requirement) and is stated at the end of the program as a requirement by Access 21.

I believe it would be a good suggestion for Access 21 to have a booth at Festival in the Park. I suggest that you contact the Executive Director with your idea. Of course, if the station did have a booth and was looking for support from the producers, I'd be glad to participate. As for the band, I suggest the same thing; check out contacting the band entry and go to their individual websites to express your thoughts. Also, you could look up the Festival in the Park committee (Charlotte Chamber of Commerce?) and make your suggestions to them.

You can always contact local commercial and public television stations about picking up the show and/or the band. It would be great to turn this adventure into a profitable endeavor. <big grin>

Anyway, thanks for your ideas (for me, the band members, and Access 21) on increasing our visibility. The Modern Renaissance Man cast and crew would love to have a larger audience.
